Question Lights Timer On/Off

I'm looking for a way to get my Lights (lol not Christmas lights just a Lamp & Rope Light) to come on/off at a set routine. I dont want a Timer as such... Like On at 10pm & Off at 11pm.

I want a timer to Start when I flick the witch ON, then after XXX Minutes it powers down. So If I set it for 5 Minutes, at 10pm I go to bed & turn the plug On at the Wall. Then at 10.05pm it will power down. Enough time for me to get upstairs & then it powers Off.

Some days it may be 10pm, others 10.30pm & such, so I dont want a Set time like the Dial you turn....

Is there anything like this available?

Re: Lights Timer On/Off

These are apparently called Time Lag Switches (assuming you mean the sort they often fit in flats where you push a button to turn the light on and it goes off a couple of minutes later).

There seem to be a few available, but I found one at http://www.sparksdirect.co.uk/remote...rs-p-4628.html

Re: Lights Timer On/Off

You might want to add a PIR sensor too so that it comes on automagically.

We use a couple of these in the hall and landing - works a treat.

Re: Lights Timer On/Off

If you know how to wire a plug, then connecting one of those to a 4 gang extension lead (between the plug & socket) would be very easy

Re: Lights Timer On/Off

An alternative is one of those remote control socket adaptors. B&Q do them in packs of 3 etc.
A friend of mine got one as her TV doesn't have an off switch, only standby.
It means she can turn on a light upstairs before she heads up, and turn off the lounge light when she's gone to bed.
You can get second remotes for not a lot, so keep one upstairs, and one downstairs.

I am using remote control sockets all around the house. The remote control has four individual on and off switches and an overall switch that turns everything connected on or off. You can set more than one socket to the same switch so that all connected to that switch turn on or off with one press.

The way that I have them set is:

Remote 1 switch 1 covers lounge sockets

Remote 1 switch 2 covers conservatory sockets

Remote 1 switch 3 covers all Christmas lights

Remote 1 switch 4 covers lamp post out in the back garden

Remote 2 switch 1 covers NTL modem

Remote 2 switch 2 covers router

Remote 2 switch 3 covers Sky+ box

Remote 2 switch 4 covers 6 way power strip

The remotes work anywhere in the house and garden and even work from my daughters house across the road. If we are away from home my daughter can switch various lights in our house on and off from her house making it seem like the house is occupied.

Having the modem, router and Sky+ box remotely controlled makes rebooting them so easy. No more on hands and knees going behind things to reboot them.

I got the dirt cheap from that Virgin Media channel (WWW.Price-drop.tv) I only ever buy from them online (to save the £1.50 telephone call charge) They have some good bargains if you look on their online site particularly in the clearance section. A set of four remote sockets with controller cost me £5.60 plus £7.99 p&P. £13.59 in total which is a very good price.

Re: Lights Timer On/Off

We got some from Aldi at around £10 for 4 sockets and 1 remote control - simply on/off switching. Others are more advanced and allow dimming for example.

Anyway, they're excellent - the only thing you need to think about is not mislaying the remote control when you need it

I had 2x sets of these. But after 1yr the Lamps started to come on & night on their own lol. With Byron I can select 1 of 4 Channels to use, as other people use this system in my area & it affects my stuff.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try my Byron again at the back of the house otherwise may have to use a timer for set time
