See my previous post regarding sending out letters that look like they come from court etc, that's illegal.

Quite right, and as that is *my* job, I DO KNOW what I am talking about. And the LAST person you should consult is a solicitor, they know nothing about debt mitigation, it is a specialist finance function.
Sorry, that is what I meant to say, it is impossible to get credit from all but the very worst of lenders, but it is certainly a lot harder to get anything like Phones, Services, Credit Cards, Catalogues ETC.

Re: Debt collector, any advice welcome!

True you shouldn't go to a general wills and conveyancing solicitor but there are plenty of solicitors who really do specialise in debt advice.

I think this news belongs here.

Bailiffs may get extra powers to enter homes

Quote:
Ministers have been accused of threatening individual liberties over proposals that privately employed bailiffs should be given rights to physically remove debtors who try to prevent belongings from being seized. Bailiffs have been denied the right to break into homes for hundreds of years and the move is aimed at stopping debtors using tactics such as blocking the door to their home.

for £300? the soliitor would charge enough that even if you got them off your back you out of pocket.

To the OP I had a bailiff round my house waiting for me at 7am after work a few years back for a £45 debt. But that was for a speeding ticket so government related.

I would ask for proof of the debt, I have had debt collection agencies ask me for money a few times on bills I 'have' paid.

it works both ways of course, bailiffs employ tactics that allow them to pump up the debt for visits etc. and based from what I have seen on that bailiffs tv program they also illegally enter people's homes.
