Protected NCB
I know you don't lose your No Claim Bonus if you make a claim which is your fault, but does you premiums go high the following year and is it classed as a conviction/accident?
How many accidents can you have, which are your fault in a year with protected NCB?
Thanks

Re: Protected NCB
Every accident within a certain time limit whether your fault or not is declarable...
But as I'm on 12 years NCB I couldn;t tell you if it makes the premium go up..

Re: Protected NCB
Your premium could rise the following year (though its not definite and can depend on the company). Bear in mind your premium might go up anyway whether accident or not!
Yes you still need to declare it as an accident (usually for between 3 and 5 years depending on the insurance company) as most companies ask "was it your fault?" and "were your no claims affected?"
I would ask this of your insurance company to be 100% sure.

Re: Protected NCB
Most No Claims Bonus Protectors allow you one claim a year and two claims in any three years before it will not apply. But it can vary from insurer to insurer.
The NCB protection simply protects your discount. It does not protect the initial premium which will be calculated on the risk you present to your insurer. That's one of the reasons why you must notify insurers when you have a prang, or if you get a conviction. The risk can change at that point and they are entitled to revise the insurance terms when the risk changes.

Re: Protected NCB
It's worth noting that the status of a driver's licence can also effect the risk and premium, even if they are only a named driver. A work colleague's son was a named driver as a provisional licence. When he moved to a full licence the premium was doubled, presumably because as an inexperienced driver he could now be out on his own.

Re: Protected NCB
Depending on the insurer you have to declare claims for up to either 3 or 5 years

Oh? I'm a named driver on other cars. They all come in about £30. I was a provisional and a named driver on my dad's before I passed my practical test. It went down by about a tenner when I passed. If on the other hand I ring up for quotes for a laugh they all come back at £1100+. A mate who is 29 has the same thing. Quotes barely different from an 19 year old we both know who has his own policy.

Re: Protected NCB
Its a strange system I know - I had the same thing - I only bought my first car when I was 23 even though I'd got 5 years full license experience I'd only been on my dads insurance since I passed my test at 18 (the car was high powered [250bhp]) and I bought a Mondeo 115bhp diesel my insurance was £900!
I've now got an Audi (age 25) and its down to £500 so hang in there

Re: Protected NCB
Can anyone please confirm, whether you can use you NCB on two different cars? Or can you only use it on one?

Re: Protected NCB
I made that mistake a few weeks back lol...It was only when I had to ring up because the website refused to take my payment did I realise that you can only have it on 1 policy at a time. Increased my quote by £300
