Having considered self employment for a while my decision time approaches.... so a question to those of you who already are - what's best and worst part of being self employed? also any tips gratefully received!

Re: Self Employment

Pro: Not having to work for anyone except yourself (and in my case with my business partner)

Con: If you can't be bothered, you don't get paid

Re: Self Employment

If you are your own boss, then there's noone to blame.

If you are self-employed, there is also the problem of being self-unemployed - can you keep the work coming in, and there's no redundancy if you are no longer required.

You also have to be happy with doing not only your own job, but the manager's, finance department's, customer services and so on.

Advantages?

If the going rate for what you do is several times what you are getting as a company man, then you might not need to keep occupied 100%

Re: Self Employment

Been self-employed now for 25 years and would never want to go back...

However, you're on your own. The gov'ment basically disowns you and if you can't make ends meet then you are in deep doodoos..

Also, it can be tough to raise finance without a documented income.
