Dishwasher
Evening all, Got a bit of a problem with the Bosch dishwasher we`ve got. .
Just recently its started the cleaning cycle including emptying and refilling, it heats up and dries everything really well but when the cycles finished, there is about an inch of water left in the bottom of the machine.
I`m tempted to think that the electric pump is packing up as you can hear it grinding away at the very end of the cycle. The model is the Bosch SGS43A32GB/01. Looked on www.espares.com ( Brilliant website) and i can get a pump for about £40 quid, just wanted your thoughts before before i ordered it Any input from a dishwasher repairman would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. Bud.

Re: Didhwasher problem?
Checked the out pipe? They can easily get blocked if you forget to clean the bigger bits from dishes/pans etc.
I'd suspect this could leave a bit of water behind if it's struggling to get shut of it?

Re: Didhwasher problem?
Yep, all dishwashers have a nice big removable filter at the bottom that should be cleaned at regular intervals
Always wondered why some people by them as you have to half clean the plates before putting them in, instead best to have a sink with a waste disposal
[edit] in that case then check the drainage pipe and see if the flow is slow

It`s all clean kymmy, that was the first thing i checked mate. Everything empties fine except that last inch of water at the end and the grinding noise.

Re: Didhwasher problem?
Fairly basic (but a common error) have you made sure the cycle is completely finished before opening the dishwasher?
Also worth using a cleaning bottle (they do work at keeping the outflow clear).

You don't have kids then ... and possibly you're also a fussy eater ... or else your eyes are bigger than your stomach and you tend to overload your plate.
There's always a full set of emptied plates in our house. The dishwasher has been a lifesaver. We've had it about 10 months and I can't contemplate life without it any more.

Re: Didhwasher problem?
An extremely high proportion of faults are connected with a blocked or semi obstructed pressure chamber and/or tube.
This is the device that in conjunction with the pressure switch (diaphragm switch usually) controls the machines water levels, program start and stop, heater switching on/off.
This device is so integral to a machines function that any good engineer will make it the first thing to check before carrying out any other work on the machine.
So where is it? Find the diaphragm switch then follow the rubber/plastic tube attached to its termination under the bottom of the tank.
Dismantle as much as you can and thoroughly clean the chamber and the tube. Remember it all must be airtight on re-assembly so cut-off any 'expanded' tube ends.
Mfgs don't make it easy and some would have you buy expensive replacement assemblys but with a little ingenuity I never found any that could not eventually be cleaned.
Only when you are satisfied that this device is working properly should you look to other solutions if the original fault is still occurring.
The most common problem with a drain pump is leaking. Noise usually indicates something in it. Clean and reinstall.
Oh and for goodness sake make sure the machine is completely disconnected from mains electricity while you are working on it.

Great info mate, is the diaphragm switch the round dome shaped thing that moves up and down if you you move it by hand? I feel really stupid now as my main job is repairing cars and i can build a car by hand ( ie a shell change) and i can build pc`s and repair, upgrade them but i know sod all about the common dishwasher.!! Cheers Mick Fisher, and no, I ain`t seen you mate.

Re: Dishwasher
Here's a picture of a washing machine pressure switch I found. I would expect to find something similar. Number of terminals may vary but the general construction should be similar.
If you blow up it, you will hear the switch(es) tripping.
