A lot of people I've talked to have gone to Sharm El Sheikh. They said it was very nice out there.

Alexandria - has a more European vibe than Cairo, lots of nice 30s hotels, fairly good shopping

I have always found trip advisor to be pretty dam accurate about the hotels i have been to in the past .
