Re: where to go
I will be going back to Angkor Wat later this year. The most impressive place I've seen in my life. We spent 5 days touring all the temples last time. We'll probably spend about 3 days there this time.

Re: where to go
What's a good place depends on what you are looking for. For instance, if you are looking for a beautiful country, one good place is Mauritius. However, if you are looking for good nightlife, then Mauritius is apparently bad.
Are you looking for a cold or hot climate? Do you want an action packed holiday (in which case Vegas would be good) or a quiet one (in which case Vegas certainly wouldn't be good).
How much are you looking to spend? £100? £200? £1,000? £20,000?
My point is that what you consider good is based on many different criteria.

Shouldn't you get your passport first?
As Stuart said, it depends on what you want to see, what you want to do, what your budget is, etc.
e.g. I hate beach holidays, but I love going to places with a lot to see and do, and especially love places with a lot of history.

Anyway, my personal top three places (out of places I've been):
1) Peru. Had an awesome 2 week trip travelling around the country, & saw all sorts of cool places & stuff including Cusco, Machu Picchu, the Nasca Lines, Puno, Arequipa, Lake Titicaca, the Colca Canyon, & more.
2) New York. Utterly brilliant.
3) Prague. Gorgeous place, lovely old buildings, oh & amazing lager...which was also cheap...and far better than the crap we get served here.
I'd love to go back to all three, plus also go to the Yucatán in Mexico, the Pyramids in Egypt, and various other places.
If all things go to plan, Mrs. D & I shall be going to the USA next Spring on our "1yr. anniversary / delayed proper honeymoon" for a 2 week road trip type thing around the Western USA... California, Grand Canyon, Vegas...

Re: where to go
Oh, & honourable mentions go out to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Jersey, Madeira, The Lakes, Dublin, Loch Lomond...... but not deepest rural France (it was boring).

Re: where to go
Although there are some wonderfulp laces to go abroad, it is also worth checking out the Lake District, Wales, Ireland, that are easier to get to and have some great scenery.
As for going abroad, France is so close and easy to get to. Many low cost airlines will take you to Europe. There is lot's to see and do.
It all depends...Are you a city person ? Do you like the beach ? Do you want to be in a small village away from civilisation ? Do you prefer capitol cities ? etc.
