What would it take for giving life?

Someone posted this on a forum I frequent, what would you do?

If you where on a sinking ship with no chance of rescue and their was only one space left on the life boat, for each of the following would you give your seat up answer yes or no try to be honest. It will be interesting to see the outcome of human morality so try to be serious when answering.

1. A woman
2. A pregnant Woman
3. A child boy or girl
4. A Disabled person in terms of limbs
5. Another man
6. A old person (Lets say over 65)
7. Mentally retarded person
8. The Queen
9. The pope

Me I'd go for 2 and 3

I would give up my seat for anyone of the first 3, as for 4-9 I wouldn't.

I'd say the pregnant woman but sometimes I mistake fat women for pregnant women on the tube so she'd need to have proof lol

ROFL good point

For me it would only be number 3.
Number 2 is bouyant and can float till rescue comes, get her to hold onto the side of the boat she'll help keep it afloat.

Re: What would it take for giving life?

Throw the pregnant woman in the water and use as a life raft on the premise she would float well?

To be totally honest I'm not that sure I could be that altruistic when it came to the crunch.

Re: What would it take for giving life?

I'm really not sure how this gets us anywhere nearer a genuine understanding of 'morality' ... or at least, what passes for it in this country, in the early 21st century. I think we're culturally self-aware enough to recognise that the vast majority would go for the children. I think those who say '2 or 3' are hedging just a little. If you can only choose one, then you can only choose one, end of. I suspect if forced, most would go for the children first.

This is a very hard one, but I'd go for 2 as you would be saving two lives.
