University loan / grant / tutition fees question

OK, so today I got a letter telling me how much I'd be getting in loans, and grants. I don't understand some of it though. It's like this:

Expected -----Amount----- Payment Type
Payment
Date

22/09/2008 -----£945.00-----Standard Grant

22/09/2008 ----- £765.60----Standard Loan

Does that mean I get £1710.60 on roughly that date?

Also, it says this:

Payment Shedule for Tutition Fee Loan

Date-------Amount-----Year
04/02/09---£1572.50----1

With some more info like course and uni. Is that how much I pay for first year all together and in one go?

Looks like you will be getting £1710.60 on 22/09 and of this £945 looks like a grant, which means you shouldn't have to pay it back and £765.60 will have to be paid back after you graduate. Sorry, don't know anything about tuition fees as we didn't have to pay in my day. I'll just have to wait 17 years until my daughter goes!

Re: University loan / grant / tutition fees question

I think you will find this is the first semester's amount - you should get the same at the beginning of the other two semesters.

The Tuition Fee Loan amount should go straight to the Uni (for fees).

Cool Re: University loan / grant / tutition fees question

you first payment is an "expected" date as you need to take your Payment schedule letter to university for them to confirm attendence with the student loans company. Unless you do this you will not recieved anything on the 22/09/08.

the payment of you tuition fee loan should be paid in two instalments throughout the course of the academic year, first payment being the feb date. once the payment of the tuition fee has been paid to your university the amount will be applied to the overall balance of you loans and you will start to get interest applied along with your maintenece loan.

just to add your maintenence loan and grant amounts are paid over the course of your academic year in three payments usually at a 3rd of the amount awarded for the academic year. Your payment schedule letter should detail all payments for the full academic year.
