Contracting and Umbrella Companies
Have any contractors out there got any feedback about Umbrella Companies and using a Limited company?
I have been trawling the net to start with one, but I dont want to start and then find someone better later.
Anyway, the best I have found so far is Priority Accounts. [admin - link removed]
They charge just a set amount, £27.50 and for that you get a same day payment included. They say they dont charge a percentage of my invoice values. Has anyone found something better than that?
Look forward to hearing back soon, coz I need to get something started quite soon.
Rgds, Les

Re: Contracting and Umbrella Companies
Thanks Graham. Couldn't find a more specific section, so thought best to put into General. Where is it now?
Thanks again for such a speedy response to my post

Re: Contracting and Umbrella Companies
I used Parasol, which also paid through CHAPS - never had any problem with them.

Re: Contracting and Umbrella Companies
Thats cool, but what did they charge? Did they pay using PAYE or paid you the whole lot? Are you using someone else now, or not contracting, you said you used them. What do you think of Priority accounts, should I give them a go, of follow on with yours?
Thanks for the feedback

£27.50 per week, but this deduction counts against tax.

PAYE - that's what Umbrella companies are for, otherwise you set up a limited company.

Went back to permie, as I got an IT Director's job in the city where I live.

I have only used Parasol, so cannot comment on other companies.
Thanks for the feedback

Re: Contracting and Umbrella Companies
Congrats on your permenat position, hows it going, better than contracting?
I know alot of umbrellas do only PAye, but there is still the ones that pay gross, less their fee, as long as you are resgistered self employed.

Re: Contracting and Umbrella Companies
Different, rather than better.
I live in Yorkshire, but was contracting in Glasgow and London, with the concomitant expenses (accommodation, subsistence, and travel).
My take home pay is about the same, because I don't have the £2.5 - 3k per month expenses, but I am at home every night (and I get 40 days paid holiday a year, which helps).
