Really badly need help re: fixed penalty notice!
Well today I was waiting for the bus, finished my cigarette, bent down and put it on the floor, stamped my foot on it and made sure it was fully out, then sat down and waited for the bus into town, all was well until a "gentleman" collared me with a FIFTY POUND fixed penaulty notice for littering NOT impressed!
I was curtious and polite until he told me it was £50, then i told him this was ludicris as he was surrounded by fag ends people had just thrown down, and to make it worse, there was a council street cleaner not far away just scratching his ass not doing any work, anyway I told him I wouldnt pay such a stupid fine, screwed it up and threw it in the bin!
Now, regretting what I did, what is the next course of action?
I am adament I will not pay such an extortionate fine, when there was plenty of other PLASTIC rubbish thrown over the place, fining me for a small butt-end is stupid!
What can I do please??

Re: Really badly need help re: fixed penalty notice!
If you gave him your name and address then I think you will need to pay up or else you will probably be taken to court for non-payment.
I do sympathise with you though, it always appears to be the only people who get caught by this nanny state of ours are the people that commit an offence once and not repeatedly. Here in Peterborough they actually put CCTV images of people they find littering in the local newspaper and ask people to shop them. I'm tempted one day to ring in and say it was one of the councillors just to see what happens

Simon I am actually in Pboro!
I was at Bretton Centre and he just appeared out of nowhere!
Such stupidity!
I think I irratated him a bit though when I'd asked to see what he'd written about me in his discription, to which he denied at first, then I proceded to inform him that if anything is written down or typed about myself, then I want to see just what it was, god what a poor sap he looked then lol!
But anyways...
Guess I will just have to wait until he posts me a new 1 I guess

I will not pay on matter of principal, why should I line the govenment's pockets anymore, they already get enough out of my for the cigarettes I buy!
And think about this: if NOBODY EVER dropped litter, there would be thousands of people out of work claiming benefits! I am doing them a favour /sarcasm

So you just give your address out to anyone that asks?

No I dont, but after he'd shown me his ID, it didnt say "littler dropping police"
It was something to do with the council and the first question I was asked was "are you registered disabled" which I thought this was reguarding me driving my disabled mother's mobility scooter to the garage to pump up the tyres, being as she can hardly walk, yet alone bend down that far!
If I'd known why he stopped me I would have ran off!
Also, I dont want to pay due to the fact the the alternative that this sap told me I should've done is thrown it in the bin, to which I replied that if I did that, then I would have been arrested for arson, as a lit cigarette end in a binfull of rubbish would have set alight, especially in the heat we have had recently!

Re: Really badly need help re: fixed penalty notice!
I bet he was hiding round the corner of Dominos just waiting for someone to do just what you did.
Did you read though recently in the ET that there was a rumour that these people (Environmental Wardens to give them their correct name) maybe paid a sum per Fixed Penalty Notice.
If that is true then that is NOT on as they will just do just what we know they do and hide around corners and catch you.
Unfortunately this is just typical of the nanny state that we have where they criminalise the ordinary person/driver/smoker etc.

Yes and once the bin is set alight and I get carted off by the boys in blue for arson then what? plead that the stuck-up council "litter police" told me to?
I would be laughed out of court straight into Peterborough Prison for a stretch

so let me get this straight - you won't pay a fine on something you know is littering because you don't want to give your money to the government, and you're happy for everyone else to have to walk through, tred on and sit in an area that stinks of old cigarette ends, making the place look like a s**t hole?
well, at least you're not selfish....

Just DO NOT try it mate...
Firstly, ONE measly small fag end DOES NOT make the whole area smell, and ONE small fag end DOES NOT make the place messy...
People that throw around old plastic bags, wrappers and the like DO make a mess, 1 small fag end, that would have probably fallen down the drain within a few minutes is NOT...
It takes around 1,000 years for plastic to decompose & rot, it doesn't take long for cotton wool & tobacco to just disappear!
And let me guess, you have NEVER done ANYTHING to make ANY area look like a craphole??
