Home Brew Beer

Does anyone do it?

I quite fancy having a go for a crack - Although having 40 pints on tap is probably a mistake in the making.

Re: Home Brew Beer

It's easy to do, you just need the right stuff like a cheap fermentation bin and some bottles or a pressure barrel. The kits have just about everything in them as far as ingrediants except for sugar and water. Just remember though to keep everything ultra clean as it spoils really easily, also I would advice on this instance to use bottles and not the barrel as in warm weather the beer goes off fast in a barrel (that is unless you get drunk as a skunk for the week

Just don;t expect a brew that tastes like it's from a pub, but they do taste OK especially the stouts and they get you drunk all the same.

It's coming up to that time of the year when I raid the greengage tree in the garden and also the bramble bushes in the fields and make wine out of them

I'd love to though make a still and try some stronger stuff...

Yep that can happen, normally a sign that the sediment has got into the bottle, I normally run it through a wine filter myself...

Re: Home Brew Beer

You need to choose which type of beer you want to brew......lager/bitter/pilsner and then buy the correct type of hops, malt and yeast.......alternatively, you can just use any old malt and baking yeast-you won't go too far wrong
I always brew pilsner

Re: Home Brew Beer

ive just brewed wheat beer [about 5weeks ago] its not bad, but not as good as shop bought imo, i have made brown ale befor thats prety good ,the bitter kits taste like that real ale stuff [well they do to me] and the cider just blows your mind , you can get a beginers kit for 30 quidish http://www.homebrewcentregy.com/Star..._for_Beer.html ..you can also get spirit kits 21%/vol which can be passed throu a water purifier to yield 40%/vol[not legal in uk] but stuf to do it on sale ,this is then flavoured to give your fave tipple.

LOL, thanks Kevin,

As far as legality I think it's legal to distill in the UK for personal drinking as long as it's not being sold... That way the goverment get thier tax...

You gotta love the "hang on a minute, there's someone at the door" comment at the end.

As he says it's purely a matter of duty on it, suprised it's the amount he says especially when you can buy .7L of cheap 37.5% vodka in Tesco/asda/sainsbury's for about £6.50

Don't buy kits. It's easy to brew very nice beer using water, malt extract, hops, yeast and sugar.....
