Gout, any1 have/had it??
Recently i had some pain in around my big toe joint
at 1st i thought it was a tissue or bone injury (as i do some sports and gym)
but the GP said it might be gout
and sent me to do a x-ray and blood test and am now waiting on the results
which they say takes 7-10 days
i had a search about it on the internet and from what i can tell the symptons does look like it
but i do think a tissue injury could be about same
i just want to know if any1 here had/have it
and does it change your diet that much
and is this a life long illness or after medication it should just go away

It can be treated with the drug colchicine, which my company make tablets of.
Good page on gout & colchicine here...

Re: Gout, any1 have/had it??
I've had it before. Its a build up of uric acid. It mainly affects the toe joints but the pain and build up can sometimes reflect through the foot, especially when you walk. It usually swells up wherever the build up us.
I was given colchicine. Basically its caused by obesity and alcohol abuse. However it doesn't seem to be that directly related as sometimes you can drink and eat a lot and it won't appear, and sometimes drink/eat less and it will. I think after one occurance, I didn't do anything different and it was years til my next occurance.

A friend of ours has gout in a foot and hand. One finger joint has swelled up quite alarmingly.
She's 80 years old, skinny as a rake and only has a half of guinness on a Sunday.
I'll have to check what her GP is prescribing. Thanks for the tip about colchicine.
