Coffee recommendation
I enjoy fresh coffee and usually go for a medium (3) Douwe Egberts which I have filtered and my wife has it espresso or filtered (she drinks way to much coffee)
Anyway I brought some Taylors Hot Lava Java (6) so I could have the odd espresso and whilst the aroma is quite strong the flavour was very flat and I was wondering what others could recommend for me to try that is strong in flavour\aroma and with a high caffeine content.
TIA
Al

Re: Coffee recommendation
What machine do you use? Or do you use the plunger thingy?
What kind of coffee do you prefer, proper, cappaccino, filter, instant?

Re: Coffee recommendation
We have a Morphy Richards combined coffee maker previous model to this one
http://www.morphyrichards.co.uk/Prod...?Product=47010
We always use a filter coffee, dont have a grinder and hardly ever use the plunger one thats at the back of the cupboard.

Re: Coffee recommendation
Do you have a local Whittards? They do 125g coffee, grounded to suit. It's good to test a wide variety, some are great and some ain't.
The best though has to be Blue Mountain.
I have a Gaggia machine, and for everyday use I use Illy, always get a good cup, if it's cappaccino, latte or espresso.

Proper coffee is rarely black, not with it's natural crema layer.
Sounds like you're an instant drinker.

Just googled for Whittards and yes we do have one local (8 miles or so)
I'll pop in on my way home from work tomorrow and have a browse.

Sugar in coffee, yeuch. Now I am a sugar man, well I used to be, weaned off and now on 1 sweetner with tea but I have never ever had sugar in filter coffee, IMO it spoils it.
I do take it black though if its an espresso.
Cream is the only thing that i'll add to filter coffee, usually after dinner on a sunday when the in-laws come round.

No not at all, if it's all you've got or time for then there's nothing wrong with it at all. Though it is a different drink than real coffee so you shouldn't really compare the two. It's like comparing tea to coffee basically.

Re: Coffee recommendation
Costa coffee - large latte, no sugar. Yummy. I've no time for fiddling with coffee makers. The last one I had was possessed - hissed when you went near it. Had to be poked with a wooden spoon. Used to back up if you didn't watch it. Nightmare. Plus they make too much - I'd be on my fifth cup of coffee, clung to a light-fitting, resting heart rate somewhere in the hundreds, with about 2-3 cups to go.

Ideally you should not be using the same grounds for filter and espresso making - they should be ground differently for each purpose.
Personally I like the Lavazza Caffe Espresso roast for espresso use - that's arabica beans, so is best for espresso.
For filter, we're lucky in that we have some family that live in Seattle. So we get them to send over Seattle's Best Coffee beans...their SeaBest Blend is beautiful, full flavour but very smooth after taste. But the Dowue Egberts filter coffee here is not bad too.
Personally I don't like the Taylors stuff at all...always tastes burnt to me.

Re: Coffee recommendation
Lavazza tastes gorgeous - Illy is pretty good too.
