Fridge Warm Freezer Fine - Please HELP....?!
I have a Zanussi Fridge Freezer which has been playing up recently and now it has got unbearable.
The fridge has just packed up really as it is constantly warm and yet the freezer works perfectly.
I have done a bit of research on electrical forums regarding this but not really had much success.
I am fed up of milk going off in the space of 36 hours and just general food-stuff going off way before it should do.
Unforunately, I cannot afford a new fridge, nor can I afford a service call out fees so would very much like it if any of you can give me some advice on what to do???
The model of Fridge Freezer is : Zanussi ZX97/5SI.
Please help me.... Thanks

Not a lot you can do.
If it's no longer under warranty you need to either a) get a new one, or b) get it fixed.
Sorry

I think you'll find that one of the major components has died (pump, motor, something like that). If that's the case then you'll need to at least buy that component, then you need to fit it - I wouldn't even know where to start with that myself.

There are a few suggestions here Surprisingly, defrosting is one of them.

Compressor and motor are working fine as far as i can 'hear'. The cooling air that should be coming from the freezer to the fridge seems to be the problem. As to what that really means, I have no idea.

Re: Fridge Warm Freezer Fine - Please HELP....?!
my fridge does the same from time to time ,its when it needs defrostig .it gets its cold air from the back of the freezer box which fills with ice ,and inhibits the flow of cold air, once defrosted its ok again .

Re: Fridge Warm Freezer Fine - Please HELP....?!
A fridge works by sucking the warm air out of the fridge hence why the back of the fridge is always warm, if you've got a faulty seal on your door then the fridge is sucking the warm air from the outside.

That's what mine was doing a couple of weeks back, but now, when defrosted, the fridge is refusing to cool up again, it's remaining warm...

Is the door closing fully and is it flush to the rim of the fridge?

If it's self defrosting make sure the run off pipe for the water is not blocked, you'll find this round the back of the fridge.

Re: Fridge Warm Freezer Fine - Please HELP....?!
I think that until you nail down the actual problem then you'll never know what to do to fix it.
So here's my suggestion.
If the freezer is still freezing then the compressor is working, so that would seem to rule out the pump unless its loosing power and isnt able to circulate properly as the fridge is above the pump it may not have the power to move coolant uphill.
Or and what would be my first stop would be to check and replace the thermostat, should cost less than £30, as to whether or not its a job you could tackle thats another thing.
EDIT***
Just found the thermostat
http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Refri...hermostat.html
£41.00
If it is the compressor your looking at £170'ish for the part and in that case you'll be better off buying a new F\F.
Just as a last thought if it is FUBAR'd and a new one is beyond your means at the moment what about second hand?

Re: Fridge Warm Freezer Fine - Please HELP....?!
It *might* be the thermostat playing up. You would need someone to check this though, which might prove costly I'm afraid.
..........Beaten to it by alferret!!!!

Re: Fridge Warm Freezer Fine - Please HELP....?!
My Friend has looked at the fridge freezer, and he reckons that the drain at the back is blocked, but he also says that it would need at least 2 days with it off to defrost, meaning that i could loose easily £100 worth of food. Is there anyway that this can be done quickly?

The way I've always done it with a small freezer is:
Wrap the frozen items in layers of newspaper to insulate them & stick as much as possible in a coolbox.
Put a bowl(s) of hot water in the freezer compartment & use a plastic implement at regular intervals to chop off as much ice as possible. You could also try rubbing salt or concentrated salt solution into the ice to speed up thawing...

I don't recommend this, but I've used a hammer and screwdriver in the past
