Fruit and Shredded Wheat
I don't eat fruit - never being that keen But I figured I ought to do more to increase my 5-a-day from 1-a-day-at-best. So I'm sat chewing on an apple and struggling to get it down. Gone all brown too It's the texture - stringy bits, seeds, skin Any thoughts on fruits that I might find tastey?
Also - Shredded Wheat. Normally I go for bran flakes - find them quite tastey. But thought I'd branch out a bit and bought a packet of Shredded Wheat. Ye Gods - it's like cardboard, only slightly more nutrious. Any thoughts on how to make it edible?

Re: Fruit and Shredded Wheat
Fruit and Fibre is actually quite nice, and quite good for the system too.
The bits of banana are lush

Re: Fruit and Shredded Wheat
when i was young my mum used to give me shredded wheat with butter spread on the top, sugar and warm milk. Hmm, thinking about it, probably cancels out any benefit eaten like that!! tasted nice though

Re: Fruit and Shredded Wheat
Not good with banana, Raistlin - unless they're in a milkshake or a loaf with walnuts. Raisins and the like are just vile. Like said - it's the texture of fruit that does it.
soup dragon - yeah. That's my thinking too - I could coat the shredded wheat in sugar, but it would be pointless eating them!

I'm not a big fruit eater eater either, find it boring - apples make my gums feel funny, and so on.
So I drink the innocent smoothies - 250mls of one of those is 2 portions of fruit. I can drink one or two glasses a day with no problems, and that gives me most of my fruit quota, and stops me being nagged (with the best of intentions) by 'er indoors.

Re: Fruit and Shredded Wheat
How about strawberries & raspberries. Or if you are feeling rich, a smoothie.
I never used to like much fruit but now have either an apple or banana every day - just have small amounts to start and keep reminding yourself how much good they're doing.

Re: Fruit and Shredded Wheat
I like Shredded Wheat. Each one is 1 Weight Watchers point so it's a good breakfast.Quite nice with warm milk in the winter. But then I like bananas, apples, oranges, pineapple, strawberries with mine as well.GC reminds me of my daughter but despite her dislikes could be persuaded to eat raspberries and strawberries even if she would turn her nose up at mango.
If you want to talk cardboard cereal try All Bran..yeuch! and bran buds double yeuch, yeuch.

Re: Fruit and Shredded Wheat
Smoothies - oh God. So annoy me THEY ARE NOT SMOOTH! Full of bits of Lord knows what, and seeds. Make me gag. That's the problem - the bits. Same with jam - had terrible problems at school with them forcing me to eat jam with loads of seeds. Just awful - can't stand the smooth texture against the bits. I need something bit-free

How about running them through a sieve first? - or liquidising them some more...

Well use fruit without any tiny seeds, remove the bits of any fruit you don't like and then make the smoothie with some Greek yoghurt.
Or just get a juicer and sieve out the bits IF there are any.
How do you get on with vegetables by the way?

I like most of them. Eat a lot of onion and peas.

I'm going to have to think of some means of consuming fruit - overcome the texture issue somehow Fruit juice I like but it's bad for my teeth - I have enamel loss on quite a few teeth, which means I have to be careful.
