Re: mobile phone scams

I love the way everyone thinks the worst. Maybe the sender just mistyped the number, or it got mis-directed.

You should reply to it...and wind them up for a laugh *providing you check the number first to make sure it not a premium rate*

Not only the elderly. If I got a text like that and hubby was out of town I would be a little creeped out, even KNOWING that it was most likely a mistyped number, or a spam text, and that even if it wasn't, no one can get my address from my mobile number, etc., etc. -- all the logical arguments that still wouldn't stop me from getting out of bed just to doublecheck that the front door was locked.

Silent calls tick me off too, especially when I'm home alone at night, even though I know they're most likely auto-dialers.

I don't let it bother me too much, though. If anyone ever did break in here, the cats wouldn't let them do ANYTHING before feeding them first, so I'd have plenty of time to call the police to report the intruder.

Isn't there always a number on text message? Normally if the number isn't stored in your phone under the appropriate person's name, it'll just come up as a number???

Do you get a discount on texts you send to yourself, or does it just come out of your standard allowance?

In that case, i'm guessing it was some sort of advertising text getting you to view the content via wap.
