Job at Maplins
I got to see the manager of my local Maplins soon for a possible job. I really want this job
Does anyone work there that could give me advice. Or anyone else. I know what they sell and etc and what most of it’s for. I have previous retail experience but I think I really need to sell myself here.
Any advice?
Cheers

..and if you ask them if they have any 'x' they go 'huh?' - or take you to the wrong thing entirely.

Re: Job at Maplins
I worked there for a few months a while ago.
Normally if you are sales assistant / technical sales you will work on the shop floor, deal with customers, and take your turn throughout ther day on the tills.
You'l probably be given a section to look after, eg. computers, cars, disco equipment, etc.
You have to put out new stock, deal with orders, take payment, clean the shop, make sure things look tidy. Oh and hoover the shop too. THey cant be bothered to get cleaners.
Dinner was about half hour.
I quit eventually as hours were not great and did it whilst inbetween jobs. Working Saturdays too and you have on-off weeks where one week you finish around 6 and then the next week 8pm but starting at 11am.
I used to hate the mornings too as they expect you to come in at about 8.40 to help do delivery and you dont get paid for that.
I also got annoyed selling stuff that was a rip-off.

My advice would be take a leaf out of Peggy's book, and don't give up on your dream for that famous yellow jacket, Hi-de hi.
I couldn't resist that Be*, anyway I wish you luck and hope it works out for you.

Hi-de-Hi! is set in Maplins, a holiday camp owned by entrepreneur, Joe Maplin, in the fictional seaside town of Crimpton-on-Sea, Essex, which is loosely based on Butlins, the real-life holiday camp empire of Billy Butlin, with his Redcoats replaced with Yellowcoats.

That's the attitude! - seriously - glad to see you're prepare to go out there and do a job, even if it's a crappy one, to provide for your family - too many people these days won't do something like that.
Sadly, shop work is lousy - and all they do is try and take the mick, but hopefully it will tide you over until something better comes along

If you shop there, then the staff discount is quite generous, although doesn't usually apply to promotional items.
Master Gaz used to work there part time (weekends) & he didn't have too many complaints, what he hated most was updating the price tags ...
