Sat Nav reccomendation
Looking to get a sat nav for my son.
Requirements are......
Less than £100
back on track re-routing
ability to add additional maps (europe)
speed camera locations
usual suspects
All idea's would be greatfully looked at.
Al

I'd recommend a Tom Tom. Not had one myself, but work for a company with about 17,000 vehicles on fleet and we use them in our fleet. You can get the Tom Tom ONE from amazon for £106. I used to have a navman and that was pretty good, but it was about £250.

TomTom and you'll never look back.
It may cost more but, I've had people use mine and they've gone and bought one.

Re: Sat Nav reccomendation
TomTom one at Halfords amongst other places, don't go for a Garmin as IMHO the mapping is inferior to TT.

Re: Sat Nav reccomendation
I'd say Tom Tom also.
Make sure your son's motor (or yours if he's using yours) doesn't have a heat reflective windscreen like mine though or you'll need a separate GPS receiver or an external antenna.

Mine's on my SPV also bluetooth receiver.
Had my Sister's Tom Tom unit stuck on the window the other week though. Thought it's RX might have been refined enough to pull the signal through, but no.

Re: Sat Nav reccomendation
Thanks all for your input.
As this is his first car and first sat-nav I didnt want to get an overly expensive one due to the fact it may get lost\stolen\broken so after looking around and taking on board all comments I have decided to get him this >> http://www.a-zmaps.co.uk/index.aspx?nid=60&iid=2087 I hope he likes it
Actually this is the product I am getting him as per Russ B's post
Magellan roadmate 1200 from Tesco <£70
Thanks again for the input

Re: Sat Nav reccomendation
Tomtom one. Have used it all over the UK ,Europe and USA and it worked really well. In addition,i have taken it apart and re-assembeld and it looks to be very well made inside with good quality electronics, well made, solid and also its a market leader so there will be plenty of backup rather than a slightly more marginal product.

Re: Sat Nav reccomendation
Another vote for the Tom Tom One.
Updating stuff from the web is a simple process if you are subscribed to stuff. Generally found it to be very accurate. In most cases the directions are clear and given in good time and the feature that volume increases with speed to counteract road noise is great. You do still need to see the screen though. Some road layouts are complex that your not quite sure without glancing at the map if a "bear left" is in fact a left turn, or just that at the junction there is a slight left bend on the crossroads.
Only issue I have is the sucker thing to stick it to the screen often looses adhesion, and as fate would have it, that's usually at the most critical time in your journey.

Re: Sat Nav reccomendation
Regarding the sucker, it helps to warm it up a little before sucking. This makes it more pliable. Also wet it a little and make sure you are not trying to suck on part of the screen that is slightly curved.
