Help with a application form

I have just recieved a application form from the Hippodrome in Birmingham for a cusotmer service assistant.

One of the questions is "Please state the reasons why you are applying for this role?"

I never know what to put on these to make myself sound good.

Any advice?

Cheers

Best thing to do is take a scrap of paper and write on it quickly, roughly, but above all HONESTLY, why you're applying for the job. Then take that and try to translate it into words that are easy to read and convey the feeling behind the reasons that you're giving.

Once you have that you should be about 75% of the way there.

Now what you need to do is look at your application from your prospective employers point of view. They want to know why you're applying, but they also want tyo know how your reasons for applying will benefit them.

It may be that the money is better in the new job, but you have to make it sound like you're moving not only because the money is better initially but because you see more prospects there for you in the future.
It may be that you're already in some sort of customer service role, but you just want a change of scenery - as far as they're concerned you should be saying something like 'whilst I'm enjoying my current role, I feel that I would now like to move to a position that provides me with greater challenges and opportunities for development'.

Remember, the interview is the easy bit - your application is your tool for selling yourself. Anybody can shine at an interview, to write a really good application (or CV) though takes a whole lot more work.

Having said ALL of that, the MOST important thing with applications/CVs is to TELL THE TRUTH. If you don't it will come back to bite you on the ass.

Apparently that happens on tonights The Apprentice with Lee's CV

The only advice I can give is don't try to baffle with BS. Keep it concise, and be yourself. Hope it turns out as you want

Re: Help with a application form

Basically think to yourself "why do you want the job" ?

Although it is good to say the truth, miss out answers such as "Becuase I get lot's of holiday" or "because I fancy the girl in the accounts department".
Now that is being a little too truthful.

You could say that you have applied becuase:

- It enables you to use your skills that you have learnt and can put them in to practice.

- Becuase you enjoy working as part of a team

- you want to work with people and know the importance of making a good impression to new clients.

- You wish to develop your skills and take on a role that is more challenging. You feel that you could work to your best.

- You have a keen interest in _________ and ________, have demonstrated that you are capable of __________, when dealing with ___________. This makes me a good candidate for the job.

Please don't take this the wrong way but it might be an idea to post here what your final draft will be, as in your post you have made one spelling mistake and a grammatic error.

Please don't think I'm being a spelling nazi, but things like that could go against you in a job application.
