Anyone used WordPress?

I never thought I'd say this but I'm tired of writing up our blog in raw HTML in TextPad. And it's a bit of a handful for Mrs A too.

So I've been looking around for other ways. I could learn up about PHP and MySQL but that seems a lot of effort. I've stumbled across WordPress which seems to do the job nicely.

Anyone any experiences of this that they'd like to share?

Re: Anyone used WordPress?

I've dabbled with using Wordpress, mainly as it is one of the options included in the 'fantastico' library of apps supplied with many cPanel installations when purchasing hosting for a web domain.

As a default installation it is very easy to use, including options for having readers log in before leaving comments, etc.

But, although I didn't play with this much, it is also very customisable, with a huge community adding to open source options for e.g. different styles, links to picture galleries, etc - a little bit of a learning curve involved here, I found, but again lots of online resources to go to for help.

Re: Anyone used WordPress?

I used to use Wordpress. I played around with both the free wordpress.com ones and the one you can host on your own domain. I liked it, but switched to Blogger for only one reason. When managing posts, you would see the 'post ID' of all your posts. That number would increase by 1 with every post, and could not be reset.

I know it's a bit (well ok, a LOT) sad of me, but that's the one thing that I didn't like about Wordpress. When I manage posts and decide to delete one, I want it GONE, and I would have liked a way to reset that post ID number, too.

Anyway, I went to check out my Wordpress account to see if they'd made any changes recently, and.. that post ID section is GONE from the Manage Posts section! I'm sure it's still in the coding somewhere, but if I don't have to SEE it, it doesn't bother me. Also I see they've added the ability to mass-delete posts. (Not ALL posts, but you can now Select All on a page' worth of old posts. Good enough!)

While my blog is currently down for re-editing, I'm seriously thinking of moving from Blogger to Wordpress because of the changes they made since the last time I messed with it.

I only revisited my Wordpress account again because this topic made me curious if it had changed at all, so thanks! Happy blogging!

Looks like it's a go'er then. I'll give it a try.
