Where to camp in the North West, North East or Southern Scotland?

Looking to go camping with my dad and my son. We are not looking for a normal campsite though more open coutryside that allows camping.

Idealling it should be remote and allow us to make small camp fires. If you imagine the type of place that Ray Mears would like then thats what we are looking for.

I'm based near Kendal and My dad and boy are over in Teesside so If you draw a circle with those 2 points at East and West then thats pretty much the area we would want it to be in.
