Motor Bike Test

I thinking of getting a motor bike.
I had one in my teens, in them days if you had a full driving licence you could ride up to a 125cc with L plates. Is this still the case?

Also I’m thinking of going for the full motor bike licence. If I was to take lessons can I do it on a bike over 125 CC? How does it work? Am’ I best to do the test on a 125 then after I pass get a bigger bike? The problem with this is that it would cost a lot to do surely?

Can anyone advise the best way of doing this on the cheap?

TIA

From memory you have to do your test on a 500cc for the option to get a bigger bike once you have passed, otherwise you are restricted i think.

To do it on the cheap you could have a couple of lessons and go in for the test, but i would not advise it....
It all depends on your ability and confidence..

Best thing to do to start is get in touch with a local riding school.
