Your most embarrassing moment?
Sadly, I can list quite a few but one of the worst happened when visiting some friends' new home a few years back. We'd never been there before and got the obligatory guided tour on arrival. Into the front room we went as I was in full flow about the horrors you tend to find when rennovating and removing old wallpaper etc. "Ahhhhhhh........ a classic example!!!" I uttered as I stared at the hideous paper which was in the process of being removed from the lounge walls. "Who in their right minds would put such horrible stuff up on their walls eh?" I'd managed to carry on in that vein for about a minute (totally oblivious to the shock on our friends faces) when I suddently noticed 3-4 unopened rolls of the same paper in the other corner of the room......... Suddently the room went very quiet......
9/10 on the 'Richter' Scale of face reddening moments I reckon....
How about you?

Re: Your most embarrassing moment?
Had a few...
One of our lecturers at work was previously in The Climax Blues Band, and apparently wrote a number one song for them. I say apparently as despite the fact he was involved (it paid for his rather nice, and large house in Forest Hill), there is some question as to actually how involved he was.
Anyhow, I digress. I knew him from college (he lectured me there), and I was just telling a fellow tech about a "jumped up popstar who thinks he can lecture". Said technician was signalling furiously, which I didn't notice until it was too late.. Guess who was standing behind me.

Re: Your most embarrassing moment?
I specialise in them
Spent about 5 minutes on the subject of Wakefield and how it was full of nutters. The bloke I was talking to just quietly said, "I'm from Wakefield, you know". Also rubbished a website - the images were awful and it was half-finished. Posted on a sort of message board where you can't delete the posts. Then realised who designed the website and that he was able to read the board.

lol - Reminds me of another of mine. I was working for a major oil exploration company in Sfax in Tunisia. As a surveyor I needed to secure and good line of sight between two points and found one which would have saved us 2-3 hours work probably. The only problem was a small sandy mound about 2-3m circumference with vegetation on the top which obscured the view between the 2 points. Well I'd had long experience of the indestrucible Toyota Landcruiser pick-up and decided I'd simply drive over the mound, flatten the vegetation and clear the sightline. All went surprisingly well until my one final attempt to flatten the last of the plants and I got grounded on the mound! 50km's from base, tow truck required, damage to vehicle..... well it seemed like a good idea at the time Guess who had to buy 5 crates of beers for the crew ?
Happy days though.

Re: Your most embarrassing moment?
There was also the time I took out the electrics at work..
One time, I was in my own office. In my office, I only had access to an underfloor socket. Which was right under my desk. The power cables were frequently snagging on the socket cover. One day, I walked in the office. Sat down, without realising that one of my chair legs (actually spokes) was sitting on the cover of the socket, and this cover was sitting on a power cable. Sat down, and heard a bang. All the sockets in our section of the floor were taken out. Thankfully, there were only two other staff in that section (the rest was all student editing suites, which were unoccupied at the time), so I just had two people to apologies to.
Another time, I was in our head of school's office. We were just setting everything up after he moved office. Set everything up, got it all working. Plugged in his fan, which apparently was the last straw. Turned it on (it was hot). Circuit breaker tripped, and took out all the school office's (secretaries and admin assistants) equipment.

Re: Your most embarrassing moment?
We spent 2 weeks freezing without central heating when our ancient boiler stopped working. A small 2 bar electric heater didn’t really do anything and John and I felt very sorry for ourselves.
It wasn’t until the plumber came to install our new boiler and was checking the gas pipes that it dawned on us that we could still have used our gas fires.

Re: Your most embarrassing moment?
I've had a lot of those
When I lived in Canada I had a mishap with a box of beer and the balcony of my apartment. I was lucky there was 2 feet of snow on the ground. (no beer was harmed)
One of my mates has a real claim to fame. When we were 16 we used to be in a band. We were doing a gig. He was always a bit of a show off and tried to do the splits on stage (dont ask me why).we'll just say he could not get back up again. It was a little whlile before he could walk properly again. We are still winding him up about that

Nope if I was really sensible, I wouldn't have got into the embarrassing situation in the first place
