Re: Council Worker - Job Evaluation

Hi Simon,

I work in the ICT department of a local council who went through the same thing 2 years ago.

They rushed it and didn't do the job evaluations correctly at all, it was all done secretly on a scoring system, no one was asked/consulted as to what their job involved, which
is apparently what is supposed to happen.

It was very bad for me, my salary went down by about £3000, and they only protected (froze) our salary for 1 year, so not only did we not get a pay rise the 1st year after the evaluation, but it then went down.

It was very bad for moral in the whole council, I doubt it will ever be the same again there, we have lost a lot of staff over this.

I was a member of UNISON, and to be honest they started out handling it very bad, taking things slowly, and not really knowing what they were talking about (they admitted this)
But with the help of the regional UNISON they managed to get their act together and finally get things moving.

But they took the council to court for compensation over the way the whole job evaluation and grading was handled.
After much wrangling they won, and those who were members of UNISON have recently been handed out some compensation.

Re: Council Worker - Job Evaluation

Another update. It's been a while now but we are still no further forward. My Line Manager is still rewriting our Job Descriptions so that we can then get re-evaluated BUT as the Appeal has to be in by 15th May my colleagues and I are going to sit down together - during working hours of course - and write our appeal based on all our input. That should hopefully cover all the tasks that we can ever be asked to do and should hopefully lead to an enhanced JE score.

I will keep you posted.

Simon
