Lake district hotel

Hello,

Ive managed to get Friday off work and am planning a two day trip up to the lake district.
Could anyone reccomend a nice hotel near Windemere.
I'd like a nice hotel as it's a romantic trip but everywhere I look seems to be so expensive so I want to get it right.

Anyone know any good places that they know are great, easy to get to, and are near lakes /mountains for sightseeing.

Many thanks,

Halcyon.

Re: Lake district hotel

Lovely bit of the country. I was going to suggest a tent, until you said "romantic"

Have you tried the AA Guide - gives star ratings and useful information. You wouldn't want a hotel that likes childen or pets, for example. Some nice hotels listed - entered "Windermere" as the location. Pricey but it'll be the area.

We've some friends who, IIRC, spent their honeymoon night at the Sun Inn in Hawkeshead. I think it was good:

Re: Lake district hotel

Wow, Thanks for all the replies.

The hotels look great.
I guess the area as Grencreeper says does bring up the price quite a bit, but it's a nice area so I'll make the most of it and be outdoors most of the day.

I will take a look through them over lunch.

Thankyou

halcyon

Re: Lake district hotel

If you want a nice restaurant for the weekend I can recommend ours :-) It is in Kendal though which is not too far to drive from Windermere.

Perhaps Kendal might be godd for a hotel as well since they are considerabley cheaper than Windermere.

Laterooms.com is good for stuff like this, and they usually get good discounts.

Re: Lake district hotel

Depends what sort of romantic weekend you had in mind. If it was the "bash 'em over the head with a club 'n drag 'em off" type then try here...

The other themed suites are worth a look for a laugh as well!

Re: Lake district hotel

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Cobbydaler's themed rooms link look like a lot of fun. I wonder whether to choose that as a suprise.
However some of the other hotels people have posted are also great and in beautiful surroundings.
I'll sleep on it and decide in the morning. Thanks to everyone for helping out. It was much appreciated.
