Felling really miserable..I've been trying to draw tonight but I can't hold the pencil for more than 30 seconds before I get a shooting pain through my thumb. It's really painful like stabbing red hot knitting needles.

No not that I'm aware. If it doesn't clear up soon I'm going to the doctor 'cos I can't even handle a pen at the moment.

Mind I haven't been taking my cod liver oil capsules which I started taking last year when I realised I'd reached the menopause.I must remember to keep them up.

I remember reading somewhere that if you take cod liver oil and you haven't got arthritis, it can actually bring on some of the symptoms. Can't remeember where i read it, but it was a medical journal. Have you got arthritis?

Tendonitis and RSI, carpal tunnel etc are very common these days due to the use of things such as drills, pc mice and other manual work. Have you had any symptoms at all before?

Sounds painful, you've got my sympathy

The NHS....I really cannot believe i pay my taxes for this, 3 months of none stop hellish pain and doctors not even listening, nor being interested, having 1 and a half months of rarely eating, losing loads of weight, being constantly sick and still not getting anywhere....latest NHS doctor told me to "shut up and just put up with it"...charming.

I did have tennis elbow and a frozen shoulder and saw the doctor.I was sent to get physio for that which cured the problems. The cod liver oil I haven't taken for 6 months or so and I started because I had very bad knees which did clear up.Actually thinking about it my knees have been playing up again.....Also I'm getting the same problem in BOTH hands.

I work for the NHS and fortunately we're not all the same. If you're unhappy with a diagnosis, seek further advice or a 2nd diagnosis Trax

@ Gaz

Sorry to hear the bad news. Hopefully this will allow you to move to something you enjoy at least. I only met you briefly but I have to say you came across as having unlimited integrity and your employer (or ex employer) is losing a talented (short ) member of staff.

Take some time and look for something enjoyable. I'd employ you in a flash.

Been there, done that, 6 different doctors, all ignored the fact im in constant pain and just said "its nothing serious, go home" in not so nice words.

Been refused brain MRI (you wouldnt believe just how much pain i've been in around that area), refused CT scan...because apparently all my pain is just me being anxious

Through all this i've developed PTSD (very high stress levels, anxiety (started because of being ill for so long and not knowing whats wrong), depression, nightmares etc.) doctors still not interested.

Also developed visual snow which i believe was a mix of huge anxiety stress and head pains (see http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ualsnow-80.jpg to understand what i now see)....had that for just over 2 months...and i've only just got a referral to an eye specialist...and still gotta wait 4 weeks for that....lovely country eh?

I know it's not the same all over the UK, infact while visiting queens medical centre the doctors i saw were friendly, listened to my problems and got me help (something else i had wrong)...wish i lived in the city

Seems like you've been shoved pillar to post and no one is taking your sypmtoms seriously. I'm no GP and don't claim to be but i think what the doctors you've seen have been trying to say (not so convincingly) that you're suffering from stress related problems and nothing medical, so no need to worry.

There are high costs involved in getting a CT scan arranged for someone, and you must not be showing enough to justify a CT.

I think your GP surgery could have been more sensitive to your illness and possibly provided you with more support. I don't think from what you've told us that they are concerned about your health, but it might help if you heard it from someone who is trained such as a GP or practice nurse.

But seriously if you aren't happy, complain to your local PCT who will have a PALS team (Patient advice and liason service) look into your case more thoroughly.

The thing is, before i fell ill i wasnt stressed at all, nor was i anxious or in any pain, i just woke up one day and was in the most awful pain i've ever been through, which did land me in hospital and i got put on 2 rounds of antiobiotics (they couldnt work out what was wrong and they cant do a CT scan here...and to get one you need a referral from your gp..)

High costs or not, i pay my taxes...and when in this amount of pain i think i deserve one even if to just make sure there is nothing serious going on up there.

Concerned about my health? hmm hardly, if they dont know what is wrong with you they either do one of two things, either they say "go home and put up with it" or say "your suffering from anxiety, take some citalopram and come back in 2 weeks", it has made me stop going to my doctors after my last appointment there, was on time but waited nearly 2 hours but he kept seeing everyone else then had the cheek to say "well you was late....but yea sorry about the wait" in the most sarcastic voice...obviously from that moment on i was abit on edge...i wont get into how cheeky he got before i had enough of him and ended up in a little bit of an arguement, he was telling me things i knew wasnt true (i have had other medical opinions, including specialist chiropracters all over the UK who say i need an MRI for the lump on the back of my neck as they are unsure as to what it is, could be a trapped nerve but if it is then its fused itself to tissue which they cant really help with...to well, anything) it seems its only my doctors who cant feel the lump (even the one in queens medical felt it and said it needs checking out with a scan) or they say "oh thats just your muscle from sitting funny" err no, i do know alot about that area (worked in medical profession for a short amount of time but was also a chiropracter for a few years) i can tell the difference between a muscle being out of place thankyou very much....and a muscle out of place does not cause a throbbing headache (about 10x worse than a migraine) for over a month and a half (pain killers dont work, dont even touch it, it got so bad i had to go to hospital last night and they shoved morphine in me to knock me out but still sent me home in the morning and told me to go see my GP), it does cause the stiff neck but pain doesnt pulsate up exactly where the lump is and cause muscle twitchin on my right side, never mind the fact i also have the pain go down my right shoulder and down the arm (sounds more and more like a trapped nerve, and now maybe damaged permanently with how long its been left, personally i feel if this does ever get sorted im gonna need physio for quite some time to get things back in order).

Sorry about my rant....im in a really bad mood today. lol.
