Mobile Phone insurance

Hi all, am after some advice from you guru's!

Over the weekend i washed my phone and its completly nackered.

I have phone insurance that came with my bank account, so i phoned them and they have sent me a claim form in the post. In the letter it says i have to have proof of purchase for the claim to be processed.

I bought the phone over a year ago, so havent kept the reciept. I phoned the bank and explained, and they said that i could speak to the network and they would be able to provide it (they couldnt)

I have checked the terms and conditions and it doesnt say that i have to have proof of purchase and i wasnt told this when agreeing.

Am i in the wrong here? Or should i put a complaint in? I dont want to go to all the hassle of writing letters if i dont have a chance of either a replacement phone or my monthly fee that i've paid

Re: Mobile Phone insurance

I would have thought you'd need proof of purchase, how else can you prove it's your phone, and not one you've "found" and trying to pull a fast one?

Re: Mobile Phone insurance

How did you buy it, cash, credit card, debit card. Do you have the bank statement or credit card bill or could you go back to that issuer to get a copy statement.

Re: Mobile Phone insurance

Which bank is it? Ive claimed twice off my LLoyds provided policy and never had to provide POP although it was also mentioned and i think is in the terms.

Is it pay as you go as its aimed at those i believe... Contract phones are probably different

I've got phone cover through Barclays and when I smashed my phone in a fit of rage a few monhs ago they replaced it within 2 working days without the need for a proof of purchase.

Re: Mobile Phone insurance

Im with the wrong bank then! its the halifax.
It was bought as a pay as you go with cash when i broke my last one and didnt have insurance.

I understand that they would need to make sure that i didnt just pick up a broken one from the street, but i registered the phone with them over six months ago, so would have thought that would have been enough.

Owel lesson learnt
