Re: police
The police won't get involved in petty incidents like this not should you consider wasting their time over something like this.
What can you do?
Forget about the money.
Wait till your both grown up and laugh back about how stupid it sounds.
Sorry but that's life. You lend someone money, you take the risk it aint going to be paid back. Never lend what you can't afford to lose.

Re: police
Basically, they'd do nothng, seeing as you have nothing in writing.
Lesson to learn - don't lend money to friends if you want to saty friends

Re: police
No. They won't do anything except maybe give you a warning for wasting police time.

But how would you get the police to listen in? Illegal phone tap? I'm afraid that the police won't be bothered. Just chalk it up to experience and don't do it again
Realistically, how much money arewe looking at?

Re: police
Can you write to your friend, mention the amount of money and when you leant it to them, and ask them to write back with an offer of how much they will pay back each month.
If they ignore you, best put down to experience and always agree in writing, even if a friend...

You realistic only option would be the small claims court but it can be one heck of a long process and it's basically your word against theirs. You have no evidence to show that the money was given, and even if you do, no evidence to suggest there was an agreement in place for it to be paid back.
You are not allowed to record a conversation without the other person being aware. If you did it would not be allowed to be used in evidence and you would probably end up being charged for illegal recording.

Simply put, unless you get a repayment schedule in writing, you've got no comeback and, frankly, I'd be surprised if you'll have any legal leg to stand on. I know it's a lot of money, but I think you're just going to have to accept that, in real terms, you made a mistake and learn from it

Re: police
The police will only take action if there is a clear intent of theft. That requires one person to hold property belonging to another with an intent to permanently deprive the true owner of it. The key words there is intent and perrmanancy. Whilst she says she will repay, there is no intent or permanancy, especially as when you lent the money there was nothing clearly defined to say when the repayment had to be.
On this basis there is no criminal involvement (which is the only thing the police can get involved with) and thus no recourse to the police.
Your only real recourse here will be a civil law procedure, of the small claims court. Even then you would need to prove the money was lent, and not repaid, i.e. there was a debt, and the expected term (period) for the repayment.
On the assumption you don't have such documentation at present, I think you need to start writing letters and see if you can retrospectively create a framework by which your ex friend acknowledges the loan, and then agrees a repayment schedule.
