New Number Plate
Morning all
Due to a resident of Casa Nug having a slight front bumper / tow bar interlude the other day, I was greeted this morning by a number plate that's both hanging off and split in half.
Having taken it off and dumped it on the dashboard (still visible then ), I was wondering if anyone knew the best (and potentially cheapest) place to get a new plate from?
Any ideas gratefully received

Re: New Number Plate
Avoid halfords.
Some key cutting places do number plates also. You'll need to take along the log book to prove its your car.
Also some of the boy racer type accessory shops do them quite reasonable.

Re: New Number Plate
Halfords are a rip off compared to the local spares and parts shop in my area. Like handyman said, dont forget your log book and some other ID.

They don't seem particularly expensive but I reckon you could get it cheaper from some of the smaller shops around!
EDIT: Oooh 8021

Re: New Number Plate
I got two (for trailer / bike racks, I didn't break them ) from www.no1showplates.co.uk - £8 inc delivery
edit: I think you need to go to a registered supplier now, actually...probably more expensive!

Re: New Number Plate
Yup its all regulated now, so everyone has to print the same letters on the same plastics and they must include there code on the plate.
For a plain plate they are pretty much a tenner a piece nowadays, and for the euro ones they are a few pennies more.
As the others say dont forget your v5

If you have a numberplate which shows the the vehicle is from the uk when going abroad you do not need to carry and ugly white sticker announcing that your from the uk

Actually, I thought that the fact number plates now carried the European flag (and 'GB') had removed the need to do that anyway

By default number plates do not carry the flag, however for a few pennies more you can get them with the flag. Hence what i originally said!

Ah, apologies - I thought that they now came with the European flag on as standard

Re: New Number Plate
I wouldn't go to Halfords on principle, I popped in there to get a plate for my private number. I had the letter from the DVLA stating I could get one with the letter and I had the V5 for the car it was going on. I was on my way to the DVLA office to have the plate put on my car, but Halfords wanted more paperwork including my grandmothers inside leg measurement.
I popped into a motor factor about half a mile down the road who took one look at the paperwork and made it without a fuss.
The other problem I had a few years ago was getting a numberplate made for my trailer, the problem there was it was a company car and I obviously didn't have the V5 as it was held by the fleet company/head office. I had to go to my local motor factor and buy the stick on ones that are still available in some places.
When the government brought in this silly new rule that only affects law abiding citizens, there was a huge increase in this area of number plate theft. I know for a fact that some of the local scum do this when they want to carry out a brimmer. (Term around here for going to a garage filling it to the brim and driving off) One of the local scum told me they preferred it when they could walk in and buy a set of fake plates, because it meant they didn't risk getting caught when stealing them.
I buy mine now from an autojumble dealer at the classic car shows, it means I can get the correct original size in pressed metal that was originally fitted to the vehicle. I will soon be changing my private plate over to another vehicle with a square rear plate, I will take the V5 for the orig car and get the plates made before to save the hassle.
It's another of these laws that only add more hassle to law abiding citizens, the dodgy dealers are unaffected like they are with vehicle excise applications.
