Management courses
Any courses out there that help develop managerial skills? I can only find two, and the college that offers them only does so on an evening, which is no good for me.

Re: Management courses
If you find any, let me know so I can recommend them to the "managers" at my place - they are to management skills as Richie & Eddie are to getting off with girls.
Gods, how I wish I were kidding.

Re: Management courses
You can often do NVQ4 in management, but i'm presuming you'd have to be 'managing' in order to complete it. Likewise with this course that I did a few years ago http://www.i-l-m.com/qualifications/...nt_level_3.ilm
I would recommend it as it springboarded me into a managerial role within the NHS. They also paid for it in the first place which is nice cos I haven't actually been on any training since!

Indeed. Time was when managers were grown or developed from within the lower tiers of the workforce..i.e natural progression.
Nowadays though, many large companies simply employ graduates directly and breed them to meet the required type of manager. Result is often a deterioration in relationships between managers and workforce, reduced morale and productivity and a general lack of respect for such managers.

Yeah - I looked at this ILM course, which is the one (Award and Certificate) that my local college does on an evening. http://www.i-l-m.com/qualifications/...nt_level_2.ilm
At the moment, I have some responsibility for managing staff, especially on an evening. The next step for me would be promotion to Team Leader, but I need to work on things like trusting and motivating people, and conflict resolution.

Those are the kind of things included in the modules. If you are managing staff, then its definitely applicable to you - but if you are particularly new to the job, i'd consider the certificate as opposed to the diploma.
Its a very useful qualification to have

I know it's not really on-topic, but I couldn't help thinking of this when I read your post.

Re: Management courses
The CIPD is a good place to start. If you're a good self-learner then BusinessBalls has loads of useful nuggets of information - though you couldn't call then courses.
If you're happy to go with elearning then Harvard ManageMentor is pretty good

Oh ta! Management gut indeed
I feel the need to learn - need to keep my brain active and discover/learn new things. Trouble is, most of the part-time courses are on and evening - when I'm at work
