Bio Diesel question

Read the owners guide for my 55 plate Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X, I have discovered that I can use Bio Diesel, the book says

Use diesel fuel according to specification EN 590 or equivilent. Do not mix it with oil, petrol or other liquids. Diesel fuels which contain a mix of up to 5% RME (bio diesel) are acceptable.

Prolonged use of supplemental additivies to prevent fuel waxing is not recommended. Do not add kerosene, paraffin or petrol to diesel fuels.

What does RME stand for?

I guess that bio diesel with also be to the EN 590 standard?

Where are the best places to get bio diesel?

What will it roughly cost?

Will it cause long term problems?

Re: Bio Diesel question

You cannot use pure biodiesel, just a mix with 5% bio and 95% diesel.

Similarly most petrol cars cannot run on ethanol, but can run a mix of 90% petrol and 10% ethanol.

RME= Rapeseed Methyl Ester

IN terms of damage, my understanding is that its the fuel pump thats usually the issue rather than anything else

Re: Bio Diesel question

Biodiesel can strip the varnish off the inside of your fuel tank.
Many direct injection diesels have a seperate pump in the fuel tank to help get fuel to the injection pump, and this often can't cope with diesel, let alone biodiesel.
The Ford sabotaged, sorry, joint developed, hdi engine used in PSA vehicles had issues where the pump in the tank would disintergrate sending tiny bits of metal to the injection pump. If they managed to get through the filters, it was very expensive to fix.
