help needed pls
Hello,
I need some advice pls, This story is a bit long so pls bear with me here it goes.
I need a car I can't seem to get credit however I have a friend who knows a lot of people so I asked for his help in this he pointed me in a direction of his other mate and gave me his phone number, I rang this person and at first he was very helpful I asked him to would he be able to help he said yes.
I asked him would he be able to get me a car and get credit he said no problem and then asked for a £250 deposit. He then said if I dont like the car for what ever reason I can have my deposit back fair enough.I than rang my other mate and asked him to pay the deposit for me as I live over 150 miles away and he said ok, then the garage rang back and said I have got the car for you and also I have got you credit and then explained the terms and conditions for the credit.
A day later I changed my mind and phoned the garage and said that I didnt want the car and said sorry he then blew his top and started name calling. I said that I understand that I may lose the deposit (fair) but he told me that I was going to pay........
Later on that day I recieved a email from him saying he was going to take me to court for costs for servicing and petrol and admin costs which is totaling £300 aswell as £250 I have to pay my mate back which he mentions in the email total cost £550 ........
Im at a loss on what to do the deposit my mate paid on my behalf i will pay back (fair enough) but the garage ???????? I live over 150 miles away and what would have happened if they was somthing wrong with the car when I got there.......
pls any advice
homer

Re: help needed pls
Sound more dodgy than Delboy, however if they have nothing in writing then the garage will have a tough time proving anything in court.

Re: help needed pls
Well you havent signed anything, certainly not a credit agreement so you dont have to do a thing other than pay your mate back, assuming that he has even paid the deposit.
I wouldnt give it a second thought.

Re: help needed pls
There are rules like that but in this case there has been no contract between you so nothing to cool off from.
Seriously just ignore any calls and emails from him if you get them, he will just be trying his luck now

Re: help needed pls
I agree with WHISTLED, if you haven't signed anything - then they can't do anything. You get a cooling off period only after an agreement is signed, and even then there are certain conditions to take into account. What kind of dodgy business does this guy run if he can get credit without someone actually signing on the dotted line?? I think you seriously need to steer clear. Do yourself a favour and don't get drawn into anything further with ths guy.
If you are intent on getting a car, and credit is a problem - have you tried the rip off merchants Carcraft and Yes Car Finance?? They seem to have less criteria to score you on for credit, although I think you might end up paying more in ineterest.

Did he even take all your info for a credit check? Time at address, previous address, employment status etc?
