Dilemma
I've been offered a new job with a Chauffeur company who are based nationwide, the job as you might have worked out is Chauffeur work for Emirates Airways transferring their passengers from Airport to Hotel then Hotel or address to Airport, I'll be driving an 07 plate Mercedes S Class (which I get to keep all the time), the wages will be £7 per hour x 40 hours + overtime plus tips which equate to £50-£70 per day tax free. Jobs like this don't come along and fall into your lap. The reason I got the call was because a good Friend of mine in Newcastle recommended me to the owner of the firm, the owner gave me a call about an hour a go asking me if I could meet up with him on Monday in Nottingham to discuss the job, he also wants me to be the lead driver, lead driver meaning that I will be in charge of the operation in Nottingham, he said that will reflect in your wages by an increase in salary plus a monthly bonus.
I asked him about the sort of clients we'd be ferrying about? He said we have the Foo Fighters on our books, Kung Fu Monks, the masters of martial arts, high flying business people, footballers, Emirates Airways, and in a few months the WWE is coming to Birmingham he said we also have the contract for that to transport the wrestlers to and from their hotels to the NEC.
Sorry for rambling on but I'm stunned as to be offered a job like this.

Should I take it or shouldn't I, my heart says take it my head says don't. Like I posted jobs like this don't fall into your lap like this, fair enough I've been reccomended by a mate who's in charge of the Newcastle operation.

Because he's also securing some contracts in and around the Nottingham area, Nottingham is central for everything.

What is the alternative? And does it have better perks than driving a new S-class?

Re: Dilemma
Well the money aint great on its own, but greatly improved by tips (not guaranteed but likely in such a position)
Newcastle also has Emirates so if these are the main contract would you be working from Birmingham and not Nottingham? If so you are adding a bit to your day especially if working out of normal hours which is also likely.
Do you like driving? If not its the wrong job obviously.
Your head is probably saying no as I would also question any employer who offered a job (especially a leading role) to a complete stranger over the phone. Regardless of a mates referral.
Meet him and ask lots of questions

As the old adage says,if it seems to be too good to be true then it probably is.
Ask lots of questions. Get everything in writing and if possible talk to someone who can give you an unbiased opinion. Caveat Emptor as my old latin master used to say.

Re: Dilemma
One thing to consider is the hours of work, I know a couple of people who've done the role and found themselves sitting outside clubs/hotels/etc. for hours whilst the client is inside. This can work both ways, large tips/gifts or a drunken **** in the rear of your motor, either way it's a killer on relationships.
Otherwise sounds great...

Re: Dilemma
Even better you could have one of those wrestlers ripping the back out of you in your new S class, leather seats as standard so they wipe down easy.

Re: Dilemma
If you are between jobs then it's no problem.Take it, see how it goes and then see what you want to do.See if it provides a living wage and save what you can against the future.Give it 3 to 6 months and then take stock.Of course IF you already have a steady job then it's a more difficult choice unless of course you hate your job anyway.
