Mobile phone Tracking

Hi all

Is it possible for the emergency services to locate someone by a mobile phone, which is switched on ?

Reason being is I do a lot of off road mountain biking and wondered if I had an accident and ended up in a ditch unconscious could I be found

thanks

Mike

Re: Mobile phone Tracking

Via triangulation from the transponders, yes.
You need a signal and at least 3 transponder connections to be accurate though, otherwise they'll just know the general area you might be in.

Would the police be able to track or do I have to register my phone some where ?

Re: Mobile phone Tracking

Have you considered getting one of these as well.

Won't help track you but if some other biker found you it would mean you were less of a john doe and more identifiable.

The above link will give you a discount.

You should tell someone you are out and when you think you will be back and tell them when you are back, but you don't need to register anything with anyone.

Always amazes me when you watch 24 how hard they seem to make this process. How it can only happen while the person is on the phone (not while the phone is polling the base stations). It's not like tracing a line when it was a hard wired connection.

As long as the police have your number, they will approach the network who in turn will find where the signal was last picked up to within a few hundred feet, sometimes less.

Well the person you have told you are out would need to call them and say this crazy fool when trolling down this hill to fast and is probably lying injured somewhere in this vicinity. I've tried calling him but he is not answering his phone and he said he would be back from the ride at...

They could then use that phone number contact the network provider and ask them for a location on the phone etc.

How quickly they would jump on such a request I have no clue.
