Who regulates public transport?

Just Like Ofcom regulate Television and the like. Who regulates the public transport?

Since my local service has become London Midland my trains are constantly delayed.

For example:
The other day I arrived at the train station at 8:30am. The train turned up at 8:40am. Except it was supposed to arrive at 7:15am

This morning my train was due at 9:08am. I got to the station at 8:55am. My train was then delayed until 9:31am. This made me late for work. Its happening every morning though and complaining to London Midland seems to do nothing.

Whats my next step?

Cheers

Re: Who regulates public transport?

Leave for work earlier, I know it's not your fault that the trains are running late, but leaving earlier at least gets you to work on time.

Um. Since the Railways Act 2005 emasculated the former Rail Passenger's Consultative Committees, you're a bit stuck*. There's the Office of Rail Regulation, who are only interested in the amount of public subsidy, your MP, who may or may not be any good, your local press (who may already be aware) but the official watchdog are this bunch:

http://www.passengerfocus.org.uk/

who are fairly toothless, but give them a go. Bear in mind that delays might actually be Network Rail's fault, not LMs, although most new franchisees seem to have teething problems. NR are almost completely unaccountable to anyone, having a single mission to save money.

* The point of the Act was to reduce the Government's subsidy, by shoving it onto the farepayer. Naturally, strong passenger's representative groups are incompatible with this, so they had to go.

If you look at the Network Maintenance schedule for the Christmas Period you'll see that essential maintenance is taking place right across the network, Midland Mainline are terminating at Luton with buses replacing the service to St Pancras.

No they aren't, since Midland Mainline ceased to exist a month or two back. It's East Midlands Trains now. London Midland are a sort of hybrid between Silverlink's West Coast services from Euston (who have had the country's most reliable trains for a few years now) and the western bit of Central Trains, which was rubbish anyway.

Re: Who regulates public transport?

My trains have been running a saturday service today and yesterday. I still have to buy a peak ticket if I want to travel before 9.30. What's that about?

Re: Who regulates public transport?

Which line? I suspect it's the 'tough luck, punter' school of railway management.
