Question Which digital camera?

Hi all my better half is currently 8 months pregnant and with the big day becoming ever nearer i thought it was time to invest in a newer digital camera. Which camera would you recomend for me to snap all those happy memories? i currently own a canon A60 which is ok but is getting a bit dated with only 2 mp it is a bit prehistoric. I would be glad to hear your recomendations.

Re: Which digital camera?

All depends on the amount you are willing to spend. A ball park figure might help.

Re: Which digital camera?

Check out http://www.dpreview.com/ for the latest reviews, also search this forum as there has been a number of threads about the same subject.

For £200 you should be able to pick up a decent camera for sure. As prices are always dropping.

Re: Which digital camera?

some cameras are going down in price at the mo.

I got a fujifilm SD6500fd I like the face detection part of it, that is funky, picks people out perfectly.

but depends on what you want, physical size, features, zoom (optical better than digital), pixel size etc.

I reall like the one I got, although some say there are better cameras, but to be honest, I am not into photography that much, but I got it for better snaps of the new arrival in march (although again not mine )

if you want to see some pics of what I have taken with my new camera, its here

Re: Which digital camera?

I just bought a Fuji F45fd for £90 from Argos. It's a stunning little camera and it got a very good review from Channel 5's Gadget show.

Re: Which digital camera?

Are you looking for a compact camera or something a bit bigger?. Take a look at the new Ricoh R7 - 8 megapixel,28mm-200mm. I have the RR30 which is an earlier 3 megapixel incarnation. My current camera is a Fuji S5700 which has halved in price since I bought it in April - http://tinyurl.com/2dejx5. What Digital Camera (issue 130) suggest these models:
Nikon S200 (88%), Canon A560 (89%), Panasonic FX30 (90%), Pentax A30 (89%) Richoh R6 (89%)

Thank you all for your replies you have given me a lot of choices. Also thanks banjo for the suggestion to buy a camcorder, i have recently bought a sony mini dv camcorder (dcr-hc37e) which for all who is intrested is a very good entry level camcorder, so i wont be needing one thanks anyway.

Call me old fashioned but i cant stand cameras without a viewfinder. Many of the new compact digis dont have one and its awful trying to use one in bright weather. Look for one WITH a viewfinder. I think Jessops website has a camera selector thingey to help you pick features.

For the record, i use a Nikon D40 SLR

Re: Which digital camera?

We recently bought my mother-in-law a Canon A570 - 4x Opt Zoom, Face recog and Image Stab. Superb camera and a bargain at under £120. (Don't forget a 2Gb SD card as well)
Alternatively, for ultra compact the IXUS 950 is a good bet.
