Can this be right??
A young lad who works with us lives in shared accomodation, he's been there for 6 months. For the last few weeks he's been moaning about the landlord getting more people in, at the moment there are 4 people living in this house sharing all the facilities like the toilet and bathroom, anyway he's been on all week about how the landlord has took away the living room and made it into another bedroom, he's also made a another bedroom out of the storeroom at the back of the house, this means there will be 6 people sharing 1 toilet and 1 bathroom, is there some sort of law as regards to how many can share a toilet.

Re: Can this be right??
Since 2004 if the house is rented out to more than 3 people the landlord needs a "House in multiple occupation" license is they share the same toilet

Maybe but in any cases, he needs to serve notice on the landlord,in accordance with his tenancy agreement, that he is moving out. Get back his deposit and move elsewhere. Perhaps the landlord could install bunk beds?

Re: Can this be right??
There is also the question about how he was sold the accommodation. Was he ever told a maximum number of people he would be sharing with and was his rent based on this? I wouldn't be happy paying an amount for the space and then to have the space taken away and more people moved in but to continue paying the same amount.
Might be best if he found somewhere else.

There is laws regarding that kind of squashing, and landlord rules which he is obviously breaking.
As Acathla said, find another place but at the same time report that banger of a landlord.
