Playing with Digital Camera

been looking around for a thread about playing around with your digi cam, like random pics people take...

well I cant find one, so I think I will make one up.

ok this is not the competition but its a good way to keep us going.

chat about the things you can do to make pics better, like exposure and the likes..... to helps us newbies into it

well here is my first main pics taken from my window in my room.

I played around with the landscape mode and the sunset mode.

if you want to have a look here it is

ik
p.s. if this is a good isea for a thread feel free to input.
if there is a thread that I could not find, then please merge or delete as you feel appropriate

Probably not quite what you're looking for, but anyway:

Re: Playing with Digital Camera

I just discovered the power of RAW files, I used to just take .JPGs mainly because I didn't have the software to play around with .NEF files (Nikon raw). Now I use capture NX and the differences and the flexability of raw files over jpg is huge. Ok the downside is the file sizes (up to 10mb a picture), but not too bad when you have a few gigs worth of memory cards floating about.

I've yet to use landscape and other modes, at the mo for point and click I just use the auto setting, other than that I'm learning to using Manual, Aperature, Shutter and Programmed modes. But you can change the photos afterwards to what the other settings will do eg landscape, portrait etc if it's in raw state.

I think the biggest thing I've learnt since I've had my D40x is the importance of cropping, before I just didn't bother. But the difference in results is amazing.

Any if anyone has a camera that can use long exposures, only play around if you have a good tripod. To use the flash indoors etc often makes photos look too clinical, but with a slower shutter speed and different aperatures with a tripod you'll get a much more natural wysiwyg photo, and often much more effective.

not really, I was more trying to promote a thread where people can tell people how they got certain shots, like exposure, modes, ISO stuff like that, and show what pick they took.

ok cause I am not an avid photographer, and am just getting into it, I will be playing with the camera, ok I dont know what it all means yet, but I hope i will learn it all.
