It's the luck of the draw as to whether you will have to pay any import duty, even if the sender has put 'Gift' on the customs label.
I have had a £400 digital camera, an Ipod, an 5g Swiss Gold bar plus other stuff sent me from the US and so far paid nothing.
Maybe they will check the next stuff I get and I will have to pay, I also understand that the Post Office also add on a charge of their own on top of any duty payable.
