Pakistan National Anthem

Why is Pakistan's national anthem 99% of it in Farsi, when the official languages of the country are Urdu & English?

Does anyone know?

Re: Pakistan National Anthem

It isn't Farsi, but "extremely Persianized Urdu": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan_national_anthem

Here is the English translation:

Quote:
Blessed be the sacred Land
Happy be the bounteous realm
Symbol of high resolve
Land of Pakistan
Blessed be thou, Citadel of Faith

The Order of this Sacred Land
Is the might of the Brotherhood of the People
May the nation, the country, and the state Shine in glory everlasting
Blessed be the goal of our ambition

This Flag of the Crescent and Star
Leads the way to progress and perfection
Interpreter of our past, glory of our present
Inspiration of our future
Symbol of the Almighty's protection

The Anthem written in Urdu is a unique poetical composition, as in spite of its brevity it is a lyrical exultation for the quintessence of Pakistan its Islamic foundation, ideology,
ethos, aspirations and its intrinsic strength.

Re: Pakistan National Anthem

This is correct, it is written in Urdi, but ask any Iranian or Tajik Afghan to listen to it and ask them which language it is.
Even today i was so confused that i asked a couple of my friends who are Afghans, we listened to it and they were like yeah, it is in Farsi, there are a couple of words which are in Urdu though, and one word which is in Hindi.

I still haven't found the answer though. :S

Re: Pakistan National Anthem

It's written in Urdu but you think it's Farsi?
How does that work?
Is it written using Urdu words and spelling, or using spelling which matches the phonetics of Farsi words using Urdu letters?

Like someone writing the Libyan anthem in English, but not actually translating it:
Allahu-Akbar Allahu-Akbar
Allahu-Akbar Fauka-Kaidi-l Moatadi
Wal-Laho Lil-Mathloomi Kairo Moaeedi
Allahu-Akbar Fauka-Kaidi-l Moatadi
Wal-Laho Lil-Mathloomi Kairo Moaeedi
Ana-Bil-Yakeeni Wabissilahi Saftadee
Watani Wanoororl-Hakki Yastao Fi-Yadee
Koolo Ma-ee Koolo Ma-ee
Allah Allah Allahu-Akbar Allahu-Faw-Kal-Motadee

Rather than:

god is great, god is great etc...

Re: Pakistan National Anthem

Well, you've heard the anthem, and I assume in your searching on the internet for the answer, you've seen it written in urdu.
So, does it use urdu words or farsi words?

Rendering something in another script, without actually translating the language, is called transliteration.
