Kind of weird question, but my mum is a childminder, and the kids my mum looks after are nasty sometimes.... now in the bathroom there is a bath mat but they did a wee on it :S lol
its gonna go into the washing machine, but i was wondering what temp is best to kill urine?

My washing machine has 30c, 35c, 40c, 60c, 75c & 90c

Re: Killing Harmful Bacteria

If you're not worried about knackering the mat just wash it as hot as you can, if you are worried then just wash it as hot as the care label says you can and hope for the best.....

I think 60 should do it, but I don't know what that will do to your Mum's mat

Re: Killing Harmful Bacteria

Why not just add some disinfectant into the wash then you don't need to worry about the temperature at all.

Re: Killing Harmful Bacteria

It's only urine... if they're healthy, it's probably sterile.

Just give it a wash... I'd be more worried about a stain than any germs.

Re: Killing Harmful Bacteria

Matt's right - unless the little bas... child has a disease (hmmm), then the urine shouldn't contain anything nasty. If the mat is cotton, 60 degrees should be fine, otherwise I'd stick with 40 and low agitation (e.g. wool wash) to be safe.

Re: Killing Harmful Bacteria

A tin of Zippo lighter fuel and a box of Swan Vesta matches should put paid to any bacteria.

Re: Killing Harmful Bacteria

Let it soak in a bowl of dissinfectant and then put it in the wash.

Re: Killing Harmful Bacteria

Matt & greencreeper are right - urine from a healthy person should be sterile. Children who are getting potty trained wee on the floor all the time! Clean it up with disenfectant or use washing machine - it will be fine!

why not fill the bath enough to cover the mat, and add a bit of bleach, soak for 20 mins, then rinse?????
