White marks on laundry

Hey Guys and Gals,

Anybody know anything about washing machines?

We're getting white marks on the laundry whenever we wash anything, we've checked that the drawers (in the machine) are clean and that the drum's ok.

It seems like the powder isn't being rinsed out correctly, but I've tried using less and tried different types, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

Is there any chance it's being caused by having too much washing in the machine or something like that?

Any thoughts?

i remember reading somewhere that you should use a biological powder every now and then to clean all the old gunky powder residue away - have you tried this?

Re: White marks on laundry

I use liquitabs i never get this problem

There's some advice here http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/module...howpage&pid=92
Quote:
CAUSE AND PREVENTION

CAUSE The washing machine is overloaded leaving insufficient space for the powder to dissolve properly.

PREVENTION Ensure a good turnover of clothes by not overloading the machine.

CAUSE The dosing device is placed into the machine in such a way that it is covered by clothes and the powder cannot disperse properly.

PREVENTION Place the dosing ball upright on top of the wash load towards the back of the machine.

CAUSE Insufficient detergent is used.

PREVENTION Some powder detergents react with the minerals in hard water, forming a whitish residue that can be mistaken for undissolved detergent. The film can be avoided by using the recommended amount of detergent.

CAUSE Low water pressure in the home may mean that some of the detergent has not been flushed into the machine during the wash fill process. This would leave detergent in the drawer which could be flushed into the machine during rinsing.

PREVENTION Make sure all detergent is flushed into the drum during the wash fill.

What happens if you wash them again, but don't use any detergent?

Re: White marks on laundry

Modern machines use a lot less water during the wash. Try adding a few more jugs of water via the dispenser and see if it helps.

Re: White marks on laundry

Could try a long boil (90 deg C) wash, with nothing in the machine - also chuck in a glug of bleach. I do it occasionally to my machine in the hopes I'm keeping it clean and happy
