Re: Bracelets
No - I'm having something far, far darker than a mid-life crisis. I'm having a "mother crisis". Definition: when mother is intent on buying something and nothing on this earth can stop her.
She wants to buy me something special for my birthday, given the number. I don't do bling at all. I wear a simple silver chain, bought for my 21st, and that's it. So I sort of agreeded (gave up) to a bracelet, but I do like the string ones - like I've seen Asians wearing.

Re: Bracelets
How about this for that rugged look.
Or this one for its powers and it would also tie in with the silver that you wear.

Re: Bracelets
Looks like I'm up alone and it's getting a bit scary the wind has just started howling. I think I'd better go to bed.
Good night all.

There's a guy at work who has them - will ask him about them, see what he says. I'm pretty sure there's a name for them, and they have a meaning

Re: Bracelets
gc,
my children wear them, and they are (usually) made by a friend and given to them (hence the name, friendship bracelet ).
Get your mum to make one for you - best of both worlds (it's personal, made by her own fair hands, and you can tell her what design you would like).
How to

Re: Bracelets
The indian ones are called Rakhi, and it's all part of a tradition where the girls tie them around their brothers wrist

If you want to buy them, your best bet is to find out where a large Indian shopping area is in Leeds and go there - if you have any indian friends they could probably tell you.
