For the first time in 26 years I have got to wear glasses.
Feels weird but can see so much better.

Re: Glasses
Do not worry about them you will soon get used to them, then when you do you will be asking people where you have put them only to find there resting on the top of your forehead.

Re: Glasses
Get your eyes lasered.
I had it done.
Now I can see clearly, and when I get angry, I can fire lasers from my eyes.

Re: Glasses
xaccers how was the op? any after effects? i'm always tempted by laser treatment but bottle out all the time. My eyes are really bad, -4.5 (riight) and -5.75 (left).
Contact lenses are ok (I use these for sport a lot) but i'd love to be able to see properly unaided.

Mine were thankfully only around -2.5/-2.75 so I was able to go for epi-lasek.
They pour alcohol onto your eye, which lifts off the top layer of cells, slide this aside, reshape your cornea, and slide the cells back into place.
My advice for anyone having this done, go home, take the sleeping pills and don't try to open your eyes for a couple of days.
When they say you'll feel a discomfort, that's actually a good description. It's not pain, it's like when you have a fever and your eyeballs feel hot, sort of a burning sensation, but I was fine after I woke up.
Took about 4 days to recover enough to drive.
The op itself was fine (they used a humourously named slit eye laser made in Japan), but the room was cold so I couldn't stop shivvering.
My sister had the same op and said it smelled of burning flesh (something thankfully I couldn't experience).
Dad had lasik. That's the one where they slice your cornea, flop it out the way, reshape the inside of the cornea, then let the flap slip back into place.
No pain or discomfort (although he felt very sorry for himself) and many people notice a difference almost immediately.
He was able to drive after 2 days I think, maybe less.
I've got no night time issues, which was one of my concerns as I did a lot of motorway driving at night. Actually driving at night is better as my glasses used to cause halo effects.
No fogging up when coming in from the cold either.
Best £800 I spent.
If you're thinking about it, and they suggest lasik becuase of your prescription, ask them about sport and any risks of the eyes being knocked.

I did that before I went bald, now they won't stay up there. I tried hanging them around my neck but work colleagues kept asking if I was free, in a Mr Humphries sort of way.

Yep, I finally got some glasses at the end of March. My eyesight (focusing) has been getting worse over the last 10 years. It got to the point that I couldn't read the text on the TV from 4 feet away.
I went and had an eye test, got some glasses and now everything is in sharp focus. So glad I finally made myself go and get it sorted. Took a while to get used to them though.
The only thing is when it's raining, and you can see less than you could before But, that's better than totally losing my eye sight!
Oh, and because I work in a place that I use a computer, my employer reimbursed my eye test fee

I take mine off. I suppose you could try a baseball cap - the right way round - personally I look a pillock in one, or perhaps I look a pillock anyway.

This is what I do. Particularly when cycling in the rain.

I don't cycle anymore, but I motorcycle and when it rains turning the head fractionally left or right removes the rain from the visor - windforce. Therefore, try pedalling harder (world record pace for a bicycle should do it).

Hm, don't know about that. There's a bit on the way home from work that is downhill. On that stretch I already have difficulty with low visibility due to wind induced tears in my eyes. Going faster will not help.
