Where abouts in France is Lourdes?
We`re going to Bergerac tomorrow and just wondered how far away it was from there?
Thanks.

Re: Lourdes?
Well worth going Bud if you can, my mother went a few years back and said it was the most worthwhile trip she has ever made

Re: Lourdes?
But don't forget Anatole France's comment when shown all the discarded crutches at Lourdes; "But where are all the wooden legs?"

Re: Lourdes?
When I was young I remember some people taking my uncle to Lourdes. My uncle is confined to a wheelchair.
When the got his to the actual site, because of his size they were unable to lift him out of the wheelchair so the attendants decided that they would just push him into the water in his wheelchair.
And when they wheeled him out again the wheelchair had a new set of tyres. It's true!

I wonder if he was able to walk soon after that!! (I hope so)
I have heard so many wonderfull things about the water there....
My question is: WHAT EXACTLY IS IT??
What is in that water that performs all these good things to happen?
I know a couple friends of mine who are confined to wheelchairs and i would love getting them both in those waters!! (Or having the water packaged and sent here so they could pour it on them in hope it helps them!)
Anyone have pictures of the water body itself?
An amazing natural wonder indeed!

Re: Lourdes?
The Virgin Mary (who has no influence or significance in the Bible other than being chosen to give birth to Jesus) supposedly appeared to some children there and the stream she 'stood' in has supposed healing properties.
My opinion - tosh. But if people feel it gives them hope then it can't be all that bad.

She is actually mentioned more in the Koran than the Bible, and is (from what I've read) a person of great significance.

Re: Lourdes?
Oh yes she is significant, no question of that (the mother of Jesus is a pretty notable role) but why she would have any sort of 'power' is beyond me.

She is a mother and they have the power of producing life almost to order.
