Do you drive a van?

If so then do take care won't you? From what i have read recently, the Police are taking a special interest in vans which may be exceeding the speed limit. Now not a lot of people know this but if your van is not of the car-derived variety and it is plated at 2000Kg or more, then it is subject to commercial vehicle speed limits as decribed here (vehicles upto 7.5tonnes)

http://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/09.htm#103

Therefore, for instance, you could be happily bobbing along at 60mph on a single carriageway road which is posted as having a 60 limit, and you could get a ticket becuase you are limited to 50mph in the kind of vehicle as described above.

Examples of vans which are over the 2000Kg limit would be something like a transit connect and up..AFAIK

Good heads-up dooper - I never knew that.

I wonder if they are targeting in particular all those flashy new double-cabs such as the Nissan Navara (GVW 2860kg) that are the cause of all this 'personal use' hassle? That could irk a few people - tee hee!

Re: Do you drive a van?

A guy at our place was shouting the odds a few weeks ago because he'd got a ticket for doing 72mph in one of the works trucks, I reminded him that it's 60mph because it's a commercial vehicle, he was having none of it, he was adamant he was right on the issue till he looked it up on the net
