Found out on Tuesday that I didn't get one of the jobs I had been after (five interviews over a 4 month period ), but my family and friends have all rallied round with supportive calls and hugs, so dusting myself off, cheering myself up, and once more into the fray.
Friends and family are what's important, everything else is just window dressing (imho).

Your right and at least your interview technique will red hot after all those interviews and who knows you may well end up getting the other job

I've just finished reading one of the best books I've read in ages World War Z by Max Brooks, it's so good I might start reading it again tonight.

Fidel Castro is on the mend.
He survives to annoy the US for yet another day.
Hugo Chavez gets his own TV show. I wonder if Virgin will pick it up.

I met some great students today...I remembered what it was about teaching that I enjoy.

Agreed - read it on holiday; it's a cracking read, sort of like "Band of Brothers", but with the scenario of a world infestation of zombies.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread - Part 2
Husband went off earlier as happy as a lark because someone had won tickets to the Pompey v Chelsea match this afternoon and invited him along...
Means me and my son get a football free afternoon and Hubby isn't so miffed about losing the Sky sports channel.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread - Part 2
We're coming to the end of the "redemption period" for the mortgage we took out 3 years ago, so went to have a review with our current provider this morning... one hour later and he had showed us how, thanks to the equity we've built up, we can reduce the term by 7½ years, thereby saving almost £75,000 over the full term.
That has made me smile a lot all day

I got yet another offer from a friend in Crete to marry her and move in with her...
Not that I would of course - but it's nice to be liked

excellent news - that is a very big mortgage, though, think ours is about a quarter of that

Re: The Happy Thought Thread - Part 2
I was depressed when he told us how little of the mortgage we'd paid off during the past 3 years... so this overall saving made me feel a lot better.
We had the option of paying less each month or shortening the term. We originally took out the loan based on just my salary - as my missus was only working part time - whereas now she's working full time. Which means we can luckily afford to go from a 30-year mortgage (minus the 3 years already paid) to a 20-year one... hence the saving.
Wouldn't have been possible at all if the housing market had crashed, so let's hope prices continue to rise a bit longer
