Has it been MOT'd recently.
---------- Post added at 12:01 ---------- Previous post was at 11:43 ----------
I've just got rid of an old diesel metro, each year in November in it went for its MOT and by the end of the day the phone call from the garage comes telling me "whats wrong". Take into account its worth was only about £800, so when I'm told its going to cost about £250 to get it through the MOT, it was the dilemma of is it cheaper to fix it or scrape it. Three years I had this for, when each time I paid to fix it, when in retrospect I should have gotten rid of it, I'm so glad I've gotten rid of it now, oh well the new one has its MOT in October, I hope I fare better with this one.

Well as I said, MOT isn't due until February, and an MOT lasts for a year, so with a bit of maths, that means it was done 3 months ago

Re: The Happy Thought Thread - Part 2
We just had a Lancaster bomber do a flyover (for some function in Sandy) Now that was impressive.
I can only wonder what a sky full of them must have been like.

Jets are all fine & well, but there's just that certain something about hearing those 4 Rolls Royce engines going by overhead.

Occasionally I have Chinook (well they are twin-rotors so i'm guessing Chinooks) helicopters fly near me (always following the same path, so there must be some proper reason for it). Its always an amazing feeling to have them fly over. The sound is immense, even at a distance. The whup-whup sound of the blades is so bass-y just cuts right through you. Just amazing. I always stop work and watch out my window when they come by.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread - Part 2
We see them often too - been wondering if they have anything to do with the Quinetiq site at Fort Halstead as they always seem to head in that direction.
Co-incidentally we've just been off watching some of the Biggin Hill Air Show from a nearby vantage point. The Typhoon looked awesome!!.........

Re: The Happy Thought Thread - Part 2
You ought to try flying in Chinooks
Possibly one of the greatest experiences I've ever had

Re: The Happy Thought Thread - Part 2
I remember my nan telling me stories about being on the south coast and seeing hundreds of bombers flying over on specific raids, saying the droning was incredible. I imagine it would have been the US B17s in the daytime and RAF Lancaster's and other four engine bombers at night, it must have been one hell of a sight and sound, hard to imagine this was happening on our doorstep only 60 odd years ago.

I don't know why it is, but the sound of even a single Rolls Royce Merlin engine has been known to bring a tear to my eye ...
Worth remembering it is the 90th anniversary of the founding of the RAF, this year

We used to have chinooks fly overhead all the time. Not the best at 3am in the morning and your window is open
