Have a look at OpenOffice it's free & only a 127Mb download for the full suite. The word processor should handle all but the most complex Word documents...

and will export them as a 'proper' pdf file, not via a printer driver cludge - a word which is worth a happy thought of its own, along with flange & widget

I had every intention of using openoffice but, being a sucker for a freebe, I decided to try out the office 2007 as I have been using 2003 version. Silly me. 57% loaded and 1hr 24mins left to go, and that's only the first half!!!!!!!
